Why not add a solar battery to your solar panels

Adding a battery to your solar PV system can provide many benefits.

First, it allows you to store excess energy produced by your solar panels for later use, increasing the overall efficiency of your system.

Second, it provides a backup power source during power outages, ensuring that you have a steady supply of electricity even when the grid is down.

Third, it allows you to take advantage of time-of-use electricity pricing, where you can charge the battery during off-peak hours when electricity is cheaper, and use it during peak hours when electricity is more expensive.

Fourth, it can help you avoid the need for expensive peak electricity from the grid, reducing your energy costs.

Finally, it increases the energy independence and security of your home, allowing you to rely less on the grid.

SOLAR PV SYSTEMS

Solar PV, or photovoltaic, is a technology that converts sunlight into electricity. It is a popular form of renewable energy used in both residential and commercial applications. A solar PV system includes solar panels, an inverter, and a battery to store excess energy.

The efficiency of solar panels and decrease in installation costs have made it more accessible for homeowners and businesses. Solar PV is a clean, sustainable, and cost-effective way to generate electricity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Sunlight is absorbed by the solar panels, made of photovoltaic cells, which convert the energy into DC electricity.

The DC electricity is sent to an inverter, which converts the electricity into AC electricity, the standard form of electricity used in homes and businesses.

The AC electricity is then sent to a meter, which measures the amount of energy produced by the solar panels.

Any excess energy produced by the solar panels is sent to a battery for storage.

When the solar panels are not producing enough energy, such as at night or on cloudy days, the stored energy in the battery is used to power the home or business.

If the system is connected to the grid, any excess energy not used by the home or business is sent back to the grid for others to use.

The solar PV system is constantly monitoring and adjusting the flow of electricity to ensure the home or business has a steady supply of power.

Solar Central works with Octopus Energy

Offering products that are in line with the Agile tariff.

Octopus Energy boasts a remarkable selection of tariffs that cater specifically to EV owners, solar PV users, and battery customers.

The company is at the forefront of time-of-use tariffs, providing customers with exceptional value and the ability to manage their energy consumption like never before.

BATTERY STORAGE

A Solar PV battery system works by storing excess energy generated by the solar panels during the day, for use later on when the sun is not shining or when the energy demand is higher.

The battery is connected to the inverter, which converts the DC electricity generated by the solar panels into AC electricity for use in the home or to be sent back to the grid.

When the battery is fully charged, any excess energy generated by the solar panels is sent to the grid for export.

When the energy demand is higher than what the solar panels can generate or at night, the stored energy in the battery is used to power the home.

The battery management system monitors and controls the flow of energy between the solar panels, battery, and the home, ensuring a steady and reliable supply of power.

WHY YOU SHOULD GO SOLAR

As a solar expert, I understand the significant impact that rising energy prices can have on a homeowner’s budget. Martin Lewis, a reputable money-saving expert, is warning that energy prices may increase by an additional 20% this year.

This increase can place a significant burden on homeowners, making it crucial to take action. Investing in solar panels is an effective solution to offset these rising energy costs.

Now is the ideal time for homeowners to consider the installation of solar panels and beat the price hike.

FAQ’s

What is the best roof direction for solar panels?

Solar panels work best when facing south. If you don’t have a south-facing roof, west-facing is the next best option. North-facing panels are not recommended.

How long does it take to install Solar Panels?

Solar panel installation typically takes a day and causes minimal disruption. Scaffolding will be erected a few days in advance, then panels will be mounted on the roof, the inverter and battery installed, and the internal wiring completed.

Do I need constant sunshine for my Solar Panels to work?

No, Solar Panels work in all daylight conditions.

Have I missed out on the Feed-in Tariff?

Yes. However, there is a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) where you are guaranteed payments for the excess electricity you generate and sell back to the grid. But we would recommend buying a battery and storing the excess energy.

How Does the Battery Storage System Work?

Solar battery storage allows you to use more of your solar power, reducing your reliance on the grid and saving you money.

During the day, your solar panels generate electricity. If you don’t use all of it, the battery stores the excess. At night or when solar generation is low, the battery can discharge, providing you with power at no additional cost.

The battery can also be programmed to charge from the grid during off-peak hours, further reducing your energy costs.

Do I need planning permission?

Good news – most homes don’t need planning permission to install solar panels. However, if you have a flat roof or live in a conservation area you might want to check with your local council before going ahead.

Can I charge the batteries from the grid?

Yes, Our system is future proof and can be set to be enabled to charge the batteries with energy delivered from the grid at off-peak times, and automatically transfer to battery power at peak times
